Ways to participate

Get to know the Center through talks, works in progress, shared workspace, and informal gatherings. U-M faculty, staff, postdocs, and students who would like to be more involved are warmly invited to join as affiliates or associates.

Meet our people

Affiliates

Stone Center affiliates are members of the U-M community who want to connect with others working on inequality. Affiliates are part of the Stone Center’s intellectual community and are encouraged to participate in events and activities that are relevant to their interests.

Affiliates may:

  • Attend Stone Center events, including the Speaker Series and Early Ideas Workshop
  • Present work in progress at the Early Ideas Workshop
  • Use the Stone Center’s common workspace during ISR business hours
  • Participate in selected Stone Center activities, such as writing retreats, informal gatherings, and book club

Associates

Stone Center associates are active members of the center’s intellectual community. Associates participate regularly in Stone Center activities and take a larger role in shaping the center’s intellectual direction, supporting its programs, and contributing to its ongoing work.

Associates receive the benefits available to affiliates and may also have access to additional Stone Center resources and opportunities, such as:

  • Communications support for Stone Center-related research and activities
  • After-hours building access
  • Participation in planning and decision-making opportunities, such as speaker selection and participatory budgeting
  • Printing and other center resources

Depending on their role, associates may also be eligible for additional resources, such as student travel or research funds, faculty lunch programs, grant administration support, or Stone Center Faculty Grants.

Express interest

Tell us how you would like to take part. If you’re unsure whether affiliate or associate membership is the right fit, you can select “Be involved somehow, but not sure just yet.” Questions? Contact [email protected].
